Who it is for

For regrowth and grey, for a change of shade, and for hair that needs its shine back.

Colouring darker, or at the same depth, is as a rule simpler than lightening. If you want noticeably lighter hair, see the guide to blonde.

How it works

  1. Consultation and choosing the shade

With the colour chart we agree how deep and how warm the shade should be. We look at your natural colour, the amount of grey and what is already on the lengths.

  2. Mixing the colour

The colour is mixed for you, to the agreed shade and the condition of your hair.

  3. Application

For regrowth, colour goes only on the new hair at the root. For a change or a refresh it also goes on the lengths, often a little later than on the root, so the result is even.

  4. Processing

The colour is left to work for a set time. Meanwhile you sit, read or rest.

  5. Wash, care and styling

Rinsing, a treatment that closes the hair, and drying. We judge the colour together on dry, styled hair.

Before your appointment

  • On the call, say whether you want only the regrowth done or a change of colour. The time needed is not the same.
  • Come with dry hair, the way you normally wear it. It does not need to be freshly washed.
  • If you have ever reacted to hair colour, say so when you call and ask about a sensitivity test.
  • Bring a photograph of the shade, if you have one.

Afterwards, at home

  • Shampoo for coloured hair

It cleans more gently, so the pigment stays longer.

  • Lukewarm water, not hot

Hot water washes colour out faster.

  • Heat protection

Before the dryer, straightener or curling iron. Heat dries the hair and colour loses its shine sooner.

  • Reds and coppers fade fastest

That is the nature of those pigments. Expect to refresh the tone more often.

How often

Regrowth becomes visible after some weeks. How soon depends on how different your natural colour is from the coloured hair and how much grey you have. The rhythm of visits follows from that.

The lengths do not need colouring every time. Often the regrowth is enough, and the tone on the lengths is refreshed when it needs it.

Good to know

  • Darker is quicker than lighter.

Taking hair darker, or staying at the same depth, is simpler than lightening it. The route from dark to light is described in the guide to blonde.

  • Colour does not lift colour.

Hair that is already coloured cannot be made lighter with a new, lighter colour. That takes lightening or a colour correction, which we talk through before the appointment.

  • We take sensitivity seriously.

If you have reacted to colour or have a sensitive scalp, tell us on the call, before a time is agreed.
